NPC or Non Playing Character appeared in the 0.04.9 No One Survived Update (August 2023) and involves rescuing up to 5 survivors from Bandit Camps to come and work for you.

They can be assigned various tasks depending on what support buildings you have built and if equipped with a suitable weapon will assist in defending your base on Horde Night.

You have to construct the NPC Control Centre (NPC CC) first* and then the NPC’S will spawn in selected Bandit Camps. Rescue the NPC by normally clearing out the camp and unlocking the cell they are in and then just talk to them. They will then appear wandering around the NPC Control Centre ready to be assigned weapons and work details in the NPC CC Management UI. (A Whiteboard inside).

*You can clear a Bandit Camp then build the NPC Control Centre and a captive will then spawn in the Camp although some Bandits may have respawned.

Once assigned work they will continue to wander around and items will appear in the warehouse at Midnight each day. Update 0.0.9.4- Optimised NPC behavior. “They will go to the workspace to work and have more idle positions and they will return to the room to sleep at night“.

Unlocked from the start, the highlighted box is the NPC Control Centre. >

The Game/Server must be PVE to be able to have NPC’s. If the PVP box is ticked in (Inventory/Information) the NPC buildings will not show in the build menu.

Build Menu

They will appear on the list in order of being rescued and in MP/Co-op only one NPC Control Centre can be built. NPC’s are worth more to a Player if started early in game rather than later on.

Warning- Vehicles parked too close to the NPC Control Centre can be damaged from NPC’s walking into them.

NPC Buildings

Although NPC Buildings can be placed on flat terrain it is much easier to build them on foundations.

NPC Control Centre (CC)

Foundation Size= 3×5

The Main Interface is inside and to the right is a whiteboard used for managing the Npc’s and what resources to collect.

NPC’s need some form of productivity bonus to start work as they start at zero. Either a House, Canteen, Recreation Room or Medical Centre needs to be also built to gain their full productivity. The higher the productivity the more resources they gather.

All support buildings must be within a 20 square foundation radius of the NPC CC to work. If destroyed the NPC’s will go into limbo and will return once the CC is rebuilt.

The Npc’s seem to be immortal and will not die and also do not require ammunition.

The NPC Control Centre must be near the actual Horde Night/Signal Tower fight for the NPC’s to engage the zombies.

Weapons available to use
Main Interface

The default view when accessing the UI and from here it displays the information of services connected, the amount of Beds (Houses), the amount of Npc’s rescued, the consumption rates, the preference of which resource to focus on and where to equip weapons.

Daily Consumption is amount taken when game clock ticks over Midnight and is in AH for Power and Litres for Water. Currently the figures show half the rate so x2 the amounts need to be deducted.

It seems that NPC’s will still gather things if no services are connected.

Update 0.0.9.2 introduced wandering Zombies and Bandits, currently the NPC’s ignore any Bandits and will not fire on them!

Update 1.0 has the bandits being attacked by the NPC’s if they have weapons equipped.

<<M4 AR, BM4, Type 95 AR, MP40, AK, Special Forces Assault Rifle, MP SMG and R870 Shotgun.

What is collected depends on the support buildings constructed, the productivity and what “focus” is set on the CC UI. Nothing is collected if no gathering buildings are present or Productivity is 0.

The higher the Productivity, the more items are gathered!

Warehouse

This tab is where any materials collected by the NPC’s will be stored. It is a 22×50 squares inventory which once full will receive no more items. Items will appear after the game clock passes Midnight going into a new day. If the CC is destroyed the Warehouse contents fall on floor.

When it is set to average the NPC’s will gather a random range of materials taken from any of the four gathering buildings built or it can be set to focus on one type of material but still getting some others by selecting the relevant building.

Power and Water

The NPC Control Centre must be connected to a nearby Battery Table and a Water Storage Station to receive a full Productivity bonus. A Well is not deemed a suitable water source.

Information on Power (Electricity) and Water is here.

NPC Rescue and Bandit Camp locations

It’s easier to clear the Bandit Camp first then unlock the Detention Cell door but not essential to do so. The door is a skill level of 1 or use a sledgehammer to break it down. More information is here on how to tackle them.

Bandits are immediately aggressive when their base is approached and will come out to fight rather hold up inside the base. Some are just melee but most are equipped with firearms and are tougher to kill than the average zombie. Their numbers inside range from 5-15 depending on which base you raid. As of Patch 0.0.83 more loot varieties were added.
