Electricity/Battery TABLE

Electricity is used for cooking, crafting, Traps and lighting which centres around constructing a Battery Table where generated power and items that use the stored power connect. The connection is not physical* and has a 20 foundation range around the Battery Table which all power/electric placeables must be within. An Inverter is needed to build a Battery Table and is top priority when looting, more information on that here. More information on unlocking and the Technology Tree is here.

*=Patch 0.0.8.3 Added visual indicators for battery pack connections to display connected items.

As mentioned, the first thing is to build is a Battery Table and to install Batteries in it.

Car Battery are 60Ah and also used in vehicles. The Household Battery comes in 80Ah and 120Ah with the Industrial Battery at 200Ah.

The greater the “Ah” the more charge the battery can hold and therefore last longer.

Battery charge/drain goes from top-bottom and left-right.

Items only use charge when used unless left on (Fridge/Freezer).

A Battery Table with 2 Industrial Batteries in.

Availability tab will show a blue dome highlighting the range of the table.

Battery Table stores power from all electricity generation sources within range (Solar, Gas, Thermal or Wind Turbine) then distributes it to any electrical items that require power.

After the Battery table has been built the default name for table is “01” but you can rename it which is then used to connect other items to it.

Simply drag Batteries from Inventory on to the icons.

This now shows the usage and charging of the batteries.

The Battery Table can be unlocked in the Technology Tree with certain items and reaching certain Skill levels.

To unlock from Workbench to the Battery Table you will need:

  • A total Mechanical skill of 2.
  • A total Electrical skill of 2.
  • A total Engineering skill of 2.
  • x1 Log.
  • x3 Stone.
  • x2 Iron Ingot.
  • x1 Copper Ingot.
  • x1 Plastic.
  • x1 Electronic Component.
Materials required to build.

< An Inverter are a specific loot item and likely the most important, more information here.

This message will appear if there are no Batteries in the Battery Table when connecting from an item that generates power.

Power Generation

All power generating placeable items are under “Workshop” in the Building Menu when unlocked.

Fuel Generator

The easiest to first set up as it requires no blueprints and only a Motor to unlock on the Tech Tree (as well as all the things for the Battery Table).

Although a Fuel Generator needs to be found for its construction, more info here.

Materials for construction >

It requires Fuel (50L Tank) to generate electricity (1000w) and it will work until it runs out of Fuel or is manually turned off. Roughly every 30 secs of real time it uses 0.1 Litres.

It requires no physical connection but must be within the Battery Table range.

Video sped up.

Solar Power Station

When building a Solar Power Station, It needs to be built outside in direct sunlight during the day and it won’t generate power at night or in cloudy/overcast weather.

It requires the loot item Blueprint: Solar Panel to unlock.

When built it needs up to 9 Solar Panels which have to be also looted and they come in 3 types (50W-200W-300W) More info here.

It requires no physical connection but must be within the Battery Tables range and will only generate power with Solar Panels added.

The higher wattage (W) of the panels and the amount of them makes charging quicker)

A Solar Panel can be looted or bought at certain Traders but they cannot be crafted.

Energy generated is high on Summer, medium in Spring and Autumn and very low in Winter.

To unlock it requires:

  • x3 Electronic Components.
  • Electrical 3.
  • Engineering 2.

To build:

“Power” is where it connects to the Battery Table and “Main Interface” is where the panels are added>

The actual facing (direction) of the Solar Power Station (N-E-S-W) seems to not matter.

Video sped up.

WIP**Currently the assumed voltage of the panels is 77v but this has been fed back to devs to change to 24v which should make solar more viable (30/12/24).

Thermal Generator

Thermal Generator is a small placeable that burns Logs, Planks, Charcoal and Coal to produce electricity.

It requires the loot item Blueprint: Thermal Generator to unlock.

To unlock:

  • x1 Electrical Wire.
  • Electrical 3.
  • Engineering 3.

“Power” is where it connects to the Battery Table and “Main Interface” is where the Fuel is added.

gg

To build:

gg

Sticks (60), Planks (60) Logs (120), Charcoal (240) and Coal (600) are suitable fuels and roughly every 30 secs of real time uses 10 units from its 2000 capacity.

It requires adding the above fuels to generate electricity (200w) and it will keep running until its out of Fuel.

Video sped up.
Wind Turbine

The Wind Turbine is a placeable item that converts wind into electrical energy and requires the loot item Blueprint: Wind Turbine to unlock.

To unlock:

  • x4 Electronic Components.
  • x4 Electrical Wires.
  • Electrical 4.
  • Engineering 3.

To build:

Once connected to the Battery Table it requires no fuel or any additional items to function.

gg

The actual facing (direction) of the Wind Turbine (N-E-S-W) or the height above ground level seems to not matter.

Weather conditions (Rain, Storms (Winds) etc)) affect the power generation and it ranges from 60W to 240W.

Power Production Comparison

The average amount of battery charge generated over a 24 hr period in Spring with Sunny weather (Game Day=45 minutes).

  1. Fuel Generator.
  2. Wind Turbine.
  3. Thermal Generator.
  4. 300w Solar Panels.
  5. 200w Solar Panels.
  6. 50w Solar Panels.

Each Solar Power Station contained 9 panels (Max).

WIP- numbers have been fed back to devs for changes (30/12/24)**

Lighting/Switches

Lighting is used to produce a light source both inside and outside a base and can be added to a Switch to be able to work more effectively but they can be operated locally. Switches can also be used to turn certain traps on/off (More info here). A Switch works wirelessly and does not have to be physically connected but all Lights and Switches need to be accessible to rename and connect them to each other and the Battery Table. All Lighting and Switches are found in the “Furniture” tab of the Building Menu apart from Street Lamp and Searchlight which are under the “Outside” tab when unlocked.

A cut down Technology Tree showing the Lighting branch.

To Unlock:

All require Electrical 3 and x3 Electrical Wire.*

Switch operation can either be “E” (Use Light Switch) and Open (On) and Close (Off) the switch by mouse clicking.

Or use “F” (Change) to directly interact with the switch so each keypress toggles the switch.

Keys can be changed in “Escape” Menu (Controls) once in game.

  • E= Default:Interaction 1 .
  • F= Default:Interaction 2.
  1. Light Switch.
  2. Wall Lamp (10w).
  3. Ceiling Lamp (30w).
  4. Street Lamp *also needs Engineering 2 (100w).
  5. Standing Lamp (10w).
  6. Desk Lamp (10w).
  7. Wall Lamp (10w).
  8. Wall Lamp (10w).

The Searchlight (500w) requires Electrical 4, Engineering 4, Mechanical 3 and x3 Steel Ingots.

There is also a Chinese Lantern (10w) that doesn’t need unlocking but requires Power and a Switch.

The components required to build Lighting items and Switches vary but are mostly lots of Electrical Wire (10-20 each) with Glass, Iron & Copper Ingots, Electronic Components, Plastic and Logs.

All can be crafted apart from Electronic Comps.

Searchlight Materials.

Switches can be mounted on any Column or Wall building piece and Lights can go on Ceilings (floors), Beams & Columns, Walls, Foundations and the ground.

There is currently no way for 2 switches to operate the same light or Trap.

Water- ACQUISITION and Storage

Water is used for Drinking (maintaining Thirst levels), Cooking, NPC Buildings and watering plants (manually and Greenhouses). Only Dirty Water can be collected straight from Rivers or the Sea and a Well but containers are required to collect from a Rainwater Collector and a Water Storage Station. Plants can be watered with Dirty Water and also used for Cooking.

Clean water is only available from the Water Purifier (Sink) with a Filter Element installed, looted Water Bottles or by boiling Dirty Water in a Pot (More info on boiling water and using a Water Bottle is here).

Containers & Pot
  1. Small Plastic Bottle (Holds 2L).
  2. Large Plastic Bottle (Holds 3L).
  3. Canteen (Holds 5L).

Each 1L (One Swig) gives +30 Thirst

Gas Stations, Kitchens in Houses and Supermarkets are the best locations of Bottles.

Canteens can not be looted and require Mechanical 3 and x1 Aluminium Ingot to unlock and be crafted using x1 Aluminium Ingot.

Pots can be looted with Farms, Industrial Buildings and Houses being good sources. They require Mechanical 1 and x1 Iron Ingot to be unlocked and can be crafted using x2 Iron Ingots.

rainwater COLLECTOR

The first item available to unlock and requires Engineering 1 and x9 Wooden Sticks after the Wooden Box Frame has been unlocked.

To Build:

gg

A container is needed to take water from the outlet!

Water can also be stored here but will always be Dirty Water when collecting.

Holds 50L and is replenished 0.5L per in game hour (Day=45 minutes) regardless of the Weather or Season so it might be considered a method of condensation collection instead. Dirty Water is only available to collect and needs to be boiled to be potable.

The Well, once unlocked and built supplies water to the Water Storage Station but can be accessed to Drink Water (not Potable!), Clean Up (wash) and fill a container.

The Well can be renamed which is then used in connecting and “Availability” shows the radius of that connection (20 Foundations). A Well will never run dry.

The Well is the starting source required to automate water gathering but it is complicated as not only does the Battery Table need to be unlocked and built but also the Machining Table (more info here).

To unlock Advanced Parts– Mechanical 4 and x2 Steel Ingots and the Drilling Tool– x1 Steel Ingot.

Drilling Tool

The Drilling Tool Can only be crafted in the Machining Table (x2 Steel Pickaxes & x10 Advanced Parts) and not be looted or bought at a Trader.

Tip: Make x2 Drilling Tool as you need one to unlock the Well and another to build it.

A Well can only be built on the ground not on foundations and requires x9 Planks, x1 Drilling Tool, x9 Simple Parts, x20 Plant Fibers and x5 Logs.

If the Well is destroyed then no materials will be recovered only Engineering Exp gained!

Water Storage Station

The Water Storage Station uses a Well as the source which then becomes the source itself for the Water Purifier and Shower Room and it also needs to connected to a Battery Table.

It can be accessed to fill a container or store water but it will always be Dirty Water when collecting.

The “Pump Water” button needs to be pressed to start to fill its 500L capacity from the Well and it will continue to fill at 10L/5 secs (GT=45m)until its full or power runs out.

The button needs to be pressed again to restart this process as it does not do it automatically.
