Food Growing
Crops involve the Agriculture Skill , finding Seeds, using the Agriculture Workbench and building the containers to grow crops in. Once grown the food crops will help with Cooking and the Cotton and Flax help with crafting clothes and making Feed. Honey can be obtained from Beehives, brewed items from the Fermentation Barrel and Rotten Food can be made faster in the Compost Bin.
The first container to unlock in the Technology Tree is the Cultivation Box and then the more advanced Hydroponics Pods along with the Greenhouse. Seeds can also be found when looting in Farms/Barns, some Industrial Buildings or Houses but no Traders sell them.
Flower Seeds are used for decoration crafting only and cannot be grown.
Clean or Dirty Water can be used for watering and Rain will automatically water (Moisture 100%) any Cultivation Boxes and Hydroponic Pods built outside. Crops do not necessarily need fertilising to grow (Fertility %) but using Fertilisers can give a larger Harvest Yield). Water is the most important thing when growing crops so be extra vigilant in the caring of crops and have the resources in place when growing is started.
Unless watered, crops will wither and die reverting back to an empty container and only one seed can be planted in any one Cultivation Box or Hydroponics Pod. A higher rate of Sunshine percentage is desirable as to maximise the crops Harvest Yield (The amount of items gained back when Harvested).
Tip: Get Wheat growing ASAP to enable unlocking Gunpowder further down the road and also Medicinal Herbs for making Herbal Tea to cure Dysentery.

Seeds & Harvest Yields
When Seeds are planted they have an average grow time of 8 days** (Game Day= 45 Minutes and Year=80 Days). Seeds are not gained on harvest but crafted from the actual Fruit or vegetable in the Agriculture Workbench at a 1-1 ratio.
Grow Crops= Seed + Sunshine + (Optional Fertiliser) + Water + Time
- Carrot.
- Corn
- Potato.
- Tomato.
- Wheat.
- Cucumber.
- Strawberry.
- Cotton.
- Flax– Seed changes to Plant Fibres when planted.
- Herb– Seed changes to Medicinal Herb when planted.

Water and Fertilised to 100% once every day (Game Day= 45Mins | Year= 80 Days) (Sleeping 12 hrs a day)
Cultivation Boxes and Fertilised Hydroponic Pods took 8** days from planting Seed to Harvest.
Watered but Unfertilised Hydroponic Pods took 14 days from planting Seed to Harvest**.
*It’s not a definitive set of results so you may get more Harvest Yield using only a little Fertiliser rather keeping it at 100%, but Fertiliser is worth using if you have some than not using any at all. **Growing times can also vary due to Weather, what the day length is set at and how much the crops are tended to.
Beehive/Compost Bin

A Compost Bin will speed up the decay of food by an average factor of 3 and requires x1 Plastic to unlock. >
To build: x2 Iron Ingots, x1 Simple Parts and x1 Plastic
Top tip, it makes an annoying buzzing sound (as does the Beehive) so maybe locate them further away from base?
Every 3 days it will produce 1 Honey except in the Winter.
It requires Agriculture 4, x3 Planks, x1 Honeycomb and x1 Honey to unlock.
It needs x5 Planks, x2 Simple Parts, x1 Honeycomb and x2 Honey to build. Honey can be bought from Traders and Honeycomb is a random loot drop when chopping trees.

Fermentation Barrel
This item is used to Ferment items to craft:
- Fermented Alcohol– requires x3 Wheat each (Used to unlock Ammo Crafting).
- Beer– requires x9 Wheat each.
- Wine– requires x9 Corn each.
- Cider– requires x9 Strawberries each.
It requires Agriculture 1, Cooking 1 and x3 Planks to unlock with x8 Planks, x1 Simple Parts and x8 Wooden Sticks to build.

Cultivation Box
Cultivation Boxes are the first and easiest way to get growing crops. They require x3 Planks to unlock and only need x5 Planks and x5 Clay to build each one. To plant a Seed just drag it from your Inventory onto the “Plant” symbol, as is the same with a Water Container and Fertiliser.
The model of the crop planted will change to represent it growing but do not take the crop until “Harvest” has replaced “Uproot” in the UI! Preferable build them outside (on the ground or a Foundation) and away from any other buildings which may overshadow them.
Tip: Harvestable crops will not decay if left in the Box if kept Watered, but will die on Day 1 of Winter.
Rain will automatically give 100% Moisture if the Box is place outside with nothing built overhead.
They do need some spacing to ensure they all get sunshine but they can at times show 0% sunshine but it is bug if the Harvest Yield is showing a high percentage.
Using a Water Bottle or Canteen for watering doesn’t use up the containers condition as drinking does.
Fertiliser to use: Fertiliser
Animal Waste

Greenhouse and Hydroponics Box
Crops will die on the first day of Winter unless they’re growing inside the Greenhouse.
It requires Electrical 2, Engineering 4, Agriculture 5, Guide:Greenhouse and x5 Iron Ingots to unlock.
It needs x20 Planks, x2 Simple Parts, x15 Plastic, x5 Rubber, x30 Glass, x10 Advanced Parts and x10 Toolboxes to build.
The model of the crop planted will change to represent it growing but do not take the crop until “Harvest” has replaced “Uproot“ in the UI!
Hydroponic Pods that are not fertilised take longer to grow.**

Hydroponic Pods can be built closer together in the Greenhouse than Cultivation Boxes.
Cultivation Boxes can be built inside a Greenhouse but have to be manually watered.
The sprinklers showing in the Greenhouse are non functional.
More information On Electricity and Water is here.
The Hydroponics Pod requires Agriculture 2, Mechanical 1 and x6 Iron Ingots to unlock.
They need x5 Planks, x2 Simple Parts, x4 Plastic and x2 Iron Ingots to build each one.
You connect each Pod to a Water Storage Station (water source ) not the building and remember to keep the tank topped up (Pump Water). To plant a Seed just drag it from your Inventory onto the “Plant” symbol, as is the same with the Fertiliser.
Each Pod uses an average of 2L of Water and the crops are “Watered” at Midnight each day as long as the Water Storage Station has enough water.

Fertiliser to use: Nutrient Solution
Clicking “Irrigate” will give the Hydroponics Pod an initial Moisture of 100% ensuring a good start to its growing.
The Hydroponics Pod can be placed outside a Greenhouse but they wont have its protection in the Winter but do get watered by the Rain.
Tip: Harvestable crops will not decay if left in a Greenhouse Pod as long as it has Water!

Farming (Animal Husbandry)
Breeding Pen
The Breeding Pen is where Animals can be reared and bred then butchered for their Fur (Hides) and Meat. Offspring can only be bought from certain Traders and not found as loot. These are different from the Wild Animals as the *Wild Boar, Deer and Bear etc cannot be tamed.
Access is through the Whiteboard and this is where you can add an animal, remove one and see its Status (age).
The Breeding Pen requires Agriculture 4 and x3 Planks to unlock and it needs x10 Wooden Sticks, x10 Logs, x10 Iron Ingots, x10 Stone and x15 Planks to build.
The Breeding Pen can be built on the ground or Foundations (3×3).

If the Breeding Pen is destroyed with any animals inside, they will spawn in their cages where the Pen originally was.

The Water and Feed Troughs show actual levels visually and the Water Trough* holds 30L of water and the Feed Trough holds x5 Feed with both having to be added manually.
Feed is made in the Agriculture Bench and does not stack like Seeds do.
Clean or Dirty Water can be used and Rain* will help fill the Water Trough.
Breeding Pens need both Feed and Water for the animals to grow and breed but they will not die from starvation only stop growing.
Current bug- they will rollback Status if they run out of Feed!
The Animals available are:
Adult | Offspring | ||
Male | Female | Male | Female |
Pig (Boar*) | Sow | Boar Piglet | Piglet (Female Piglet*) |
Ram | Ewe | Lamb (Male Lamb*) | Lamb (Ewe Lamb*) |
Rooster | Hen | Chicken (Male Chick*) | Chicken (Female Chick*) |
*Update 0.0.87: Animals were renamed for better clarification. Old Names (New Renames).
Status Growth per Game Day:
Pigs | Sheep | Chickens | ||
Offspring | 0.0 – 0.9 | +0.1 | +0.2
Adult | 1.0+ | +0.2 | ||
Fertile= 4.0+ | Max age=10 |
If a Fertile Male and Female are together in a Pen then they will at some point produce an Offspring. (could take Days or Weeks) Once this happens a baby will appear with status 0.0 and the parents will revert back to Adults 1.0 plus the amount of Status gained whilst Fertile. ( ie A hen at status 4.6 produces a Chick (0.6 past 4.0), she then would be 1.0+0.6=1.6 ).
Professions and Attributes
- Farmer – Gives Agriculture 3, x4 Random Seeds and x2 Chickens (fixed in Update 0092).
- No attribute as yet gives any advantage to Agriculture.
Skinning/Butchery
To butcher an animal, either have it your Inventory and RMB and click “Dismantle” with a knife equipped or kill it in and around the Pen and press *”E” to collect from the body. Below is the average amounts harvested showing type and Status (age) of the animal.
Age (Status) | Pigs | Sheep | Chickens
Offspring | 0 – 0.9 | x3 Pork & x1 Fur | x2 Mutton & x1 Fur | x1 Chicken Meat |
Adult | 1.0 – 3.9 | x10 Pork & x4 Fur | x7 Mutton & x1 Fur | x3 Chicken Meat |
Fertile | 4.0-10 | x13 Pork & x6 Fur | x8 Mutton & x1 Fur | x4 Chicken Meat |
Animal Traders (circled)
All animals are sold and transported in cages and will only be animated (walking about) when in the Breeding Pen. They will despawn if left on the ground for very long but they can be stored in Storage Boxes or an Inventory indefinitely . Only the Offspring are available for bartering and when entered in to the Pen they start at 0.0 status as do any newborns.
The Sheep are the Damara breed which makes them look like Goats.
