Special Zombies

Not the Special Zombies!

The Zombies of No One Survived (as above) were plain and ordinary until Update 0.0.4.4 was released in April 2023 which saw the introduction of “Special Zombies“. The option to turn them On/Off in the Game Settings was in the next Update (0.0.4.5).

Special Zombies consist of the BFZ, Crawler, Dog, Spitter and the Blow up Guy with the Police Man, Soldier, Miner, Firefighter and the Nurse being added as new slightly buffed regulars.

Special Zombies will also show up at Horde Nights along with the regular ones but Specials are not affected by Scent Decoy’s so they will not stop and group up as the regulars will.

Special Zombies

Big Fat Zombie aka “BFZ”

Game Notes:

Strong defensive power and hard to kill with impact and collision attack mode. Extremely strong attack power.

Tactics:

The toughest of them all and its best to avoid them if solo or until enough ammo is stocked up. Running isn’t always an option as they can catch you and stun you. They can be killed early on if planned well using Traps , alternate attacking in MP or a raised platform whilst luring them to you singularly.

“Unknown” AKA The Crawler

Game Notes:

N/A

Tactics:

They cannot climb as other Zombies do but can leap and land on low platforms. Either run away and climb up and Stab/Bow Shoot them from upon high or shoot them much like BFZ’s.

Blood Corpse AKA “Spitter”

Game Notes:

Capable of long-range attacks and has weak defense.

Tactics:

They will move to close to their range of shooting a goo (spitting) at you, which can be dodged by a simple sidestep. Best attacked at ranged.

They will make a noise in preparation to spitting as some early warning they are there.

Self-exploding zombie AKA Blow Up Guy

Game Notes:

Self-detonation after death, weak defense, close-range infection of virus and self-destruction will attract other Zombies!

Has a green toxic cloud around them.

Tactics:

Currently the Viral Infection element has been removed from them and the explosion does minor damage.

If they become infected again then take them down quick and prioritise them in a group. Best attacked at ranged.

Zombie Dog

Game Notes:

Has stronger discovery ability, fast speed, weak defense, and large attack range.

Tactics:

Can jump around and is quite fast when running in to attack. A couple of shots, arrows or stabs will put this beast down.

Non Special Zombies

The extra non special zombies added with the Specials are just a little more tougher and usually require just a little more ammo to put down.

Some of these Zombies may turn up when an Alarm sounds (Car or Building).

Police Zombie

Game Notes:

Fast speed, strong defense, large attack range and often appear in Police Stations.

Tactics:

The usual head shots or powerful melee attacks to knock them down to finish them on the ground.

Soldier Zombie

Game Notes:

Fast speed, strong defense, large attack range and appears in Military Bases.

Tactics:

With the addition of armour on the zombie, headshots don’t do as much damage as they can on other zombies.

Firefighter Zombie

Game Notes:

Fast speed, strong defense with a large attack range.

Tactics:

The usual head shots or powerful melee attacks to knock them down to finish them on the ground.

Miner Zombie

Game Notes:

Fast speed, strong defense, large attack range and often appears in Mines.

Tactics:

The usual head shots or powerful melee attacks to knock them down to finish them on the ground.

Doctor Zombie AKA The Nurse

Game Notes:

Ordinary Zombie appearing in the Hospital.

Tactics:

The usual head shots or powerful melee attacks to knock them down to finish them on the ground.

Q3 of 2025 will bring new Zombies, so stay tuned…..

Sprinters!

The percentage amount of Zombies that can be “Sprinters” that means the ones that will run at you rather than shamble or slowly walk to towards you is set at the start of the game or changed when the Inventory is open in “Information”.

To tackle any Sprinter, slow their advance by shooting once in the Torso and then the Head to finish (or continue to do Body shots depending on aim)

Knee and leg shots are also a good tactic for Sprinters as those shots force the zombie to kneel down which stops them in their tracks and then a good headshot or two to finish.

Fighting Talk!

The first thing to think of when playing No One Survived is at what difficulty level you wish to play at. The settings of Beginner, Catastrophe and Hardcore do not tell the whole story but are a rough guide to start with.

More information on settings is here.

The main points to look at is Zombies Strength which sets their Damage and to some degree their toughness and also Zombie Spawn which sets how many will spawn in.

The option to have Special Zombies is selectable and perhaps for a first time player to untick that box but it will mean that toxin (from the Spitter) is unavailable when trading for Melee Repair Kits at Merchants.

Top tips:

  • Build Beds! everytime you investigate a new loot spot or building (POI) build a bed and set your spawn to it. If you get swamped and die, it beats walking back from base or a random Merchant. Just don’t set it too close to where you are looting to get agro when you respawn.
  • Manage your Stamina. Jog in, run out! If you have the food, top up stats and get a Stamina Buff if possible.
  • Keep an eye out, where there’s one Zombie there might be more. Currently Zombies can zone in on a player from quite a distance so hopefully the new Stealth mechanic will help when in comes.
  • If in doubt, run! Depending on skill level you might manage 2-3 Zombies but if you see more coming then leg it! They who run away, live to fight another day.
  • Save ammo, keep shotgun shells for the hard guys also 7.62 for the SKS as these do great damage and can knockback or knockdown Zombies. Use Spears, Melee or Arrows on the slow easier ones.
  • Have the best, Keep weapons in the best condition you can. Wooden spear 1/2 gone?, then make another. The worse thing is hearing the breaking of a weapon just when you need it most.
  • Traps! Use Wooden Spikes built outside the POI as a fall back position from which to defend against being swamped.
  • Herd them, if you face larger groups and have any type of Scent decoy and Molotov Cocktails then use the former to group the non Specials together then throw a cocktail to burn them. Molotov Cocktails are also useful on Crawlers and BFZ to halt them and fire does great damage.

In this video, a Crawler is avoided by jumping up and onto things and using ranged attacks.

In this video a BFZ is “tag teamed” so its focus is split between the two players.

Stealth!

Stealth is the new game mechanic brought in with Update 0092. It’s a skill which is leveled by crouching and moving with the higher the skill, the better hidden you are whilst crouched.

Zombie/Bandit perception is based on:

  • Noise.
  • Line of Sight (LOS).
  • Aggro, If you attack the Zombie/bandit first.

Hygiene plays no part in being noticed by Zombies and now is just part of the Health mechanics.

Top Tip- Crouch everywhere you can, best being whilst moving around your Base to level the Stealth Skill.

Zombie Loot Drops

Killing Zombies also has a Steam Achievement for killing 1 and killing a 100.

Zombies drop some loot which is shown below but the Specials can drop body parts as well as standard Teeth used to trade for things at Merchants/Traders.

  1. Zombie Teeth (Standard).
  2. Giant Teeth (BFZ).
  3. Zombie Claws (Crawler).
  4. Zombie Toxin (Spitter).
