Clothing

Clothing is important for keeping warm or cool, protection and looking good. There are many types of clothes to wear which offer protection against attacks as well as specific Armour items which fit into the assigned equipment slots. Clothes can be found when looting, bartering with Traders or some can be crafted. The bottom two slots are for the Backpack and Shoulder Light. You only need a Backpack to hold extra items up to the limit of the Characters Carry Weight as the top portion (Pockets) stays the same regardless of clothing1.

More information on Merchants/Traders is here with more information on Crafting tables here.

Update 0.0.8.7: New Players in Multiplayer Mode now receive different starter clothing based on the season.

The 5 clothing slots are:

  1. Head (Helmets, Hats and Caps).
  2. Body (Vests, T-Shirts, Uniforms, Coats and Jackets ).
  3. Hands (Gloves).
  4. Legs (Pants, Trousers and Shorts).
  5. Feet (Shoes and Boots). The Character moves slower Barefoot!

There are many different types of Clothing with varying bonuses/penalties, colours, style and function. Not all types of Clothing give the same statistics such as Sports shoes give better Speed bonus than some Leather Shoes and Sun Hats/Visor give better Heat Resistance than a Helmet.

Some of the Clothing found in the game (looted or sold at Merchants) less the Military Gear and Armour.

Heat and Cold Resistance Clothes

The two environmental factors in the game are Heat and Cold. To stay cool and avoid the suffering from higher temperatures encountered in Summer, the Character must increase their Heat Resistance. This is achieved from wearing clothes that have a Heat Resistance Bonus or by wearing no clothes.

Clothes that increase Cold Resistance should be avoided as they have the opposite desired effect in the Summer and they are worn when the temperature drops in the Winter. In the Colder temperatures warmer clothes with Cold Resistance need to be worn and although some clothes might give both bonuses it is a general rule that different types of clothing need to be worn in Spring/Summer than in the Autumn/Winter seasons.

Failure to keep the Character warm or cool will result in suffering Medical effects such as Hypothermia (Too Cold) or Heatstroke (Too Hot) which can be cured by certain medicines but it is easier to avoid it by keeping an eye on the Season changes and dressing accordingly. The “Santa Outfit” has the best bonuses for Cold Resistance and is only available at Traders.

Tip: Stay close to Campfires, Fireplace and Smelting Furnace to keep warm. (Update 0092 added) These increase your Cold Resistance and not affect the outside temperature.

To Change the temperature display to either Celsius (°C) or Fahrenheit (°F) is in the Video Settings menu

(A) Wrap Up!
(B) Stay Cool!

(A) is an example of Clothes that give high Cold Resistance in which the Character can survive quite well between the temperatures of 25°C (77°F) and -45°C (-49°F). If the outside temperature goes above or below this range then the character might suffer the extreme effects of Cold Or Heat as previously mentioned. Note all Equipment Slots are filled and that there are other clothing alternatives which provide varying Cold Resistance bonuses and Armour typically increases Cold Resistance such as the Medieval Armour.

(B) is an example of Clothes that give high Heat Resistance in which the Character can survive quite well between the temperatures of -1°C (30°F) and 40°C (104°F). If the outside temperature goes above or below this range then the character might suffer the extreme effects of Cold Or Heat as previously mentioned. Sun hats and Visors are the only clothing that only give a Heat Resistance bonus whilst most clothes may give a Heat Resistance penalty so avoid these by wearing ones with no Cold Resistance bonus, no Heat Resistance penalty or no clothes at all (Currently no Sunburn effects).

The Summer temperature can sometimes go above the Characters tolerance so medicines (Antipyretic or Antispasmodic) may have to be used to avoid possible death.

Armour

Armour comes mainly in the form of Military Clothing and Medieval Suits of Armour (which gives Impact Resistance) but some everyday clothing will give some Defense and Scratch Resistance. Although there is a slight Movement Speed increase with the Medieval Armour, the Character will move sluggishly to simulate the extra weight of wearing the armour.

Impact Resistance counters the effect of being Stunned or the “Stagger” effect when hit by an attack or bullet forcing the character to step back and leaving you unable to bring a Weapon up to fire.

Defense is ???? (to be defined) WIP

The Attribute “Strong” gives +5 Defense at Character creation.

Scratch Resistance is the resistance against taking Damage and Bleeding which could lead to an Infected Wound from a Zombie Attack.

The Profession “Explorer” gives an extra 20% Scratch Resistance at Character creation.

The Profession “Police Officer” gives Police Uniform, Police Pants, Police Shoes and Police Helmet. These items give very good Cold Resistance which is useful if spawning into a new Game/Server in Winter. The Heat Resistance would be an issue in the hot Summer though.

  • Speed: +21
  • Defense: +67
  • Scratch Resistance: +53
  • Cold Res: +99
  • Heat Res -48
  • Head Protection: +45

Camo/Combat/Military Gear

There are 3 types of Camo Clothing with Vests and Jackets as options for the Body slot. Typically the bonuses are the same for each piece of clothing type.

Combat Gear can be found when looting especially at Military Buildings and sold at Traders

The 3 Camo Patterns.

Clothing can be dragged across to the slot or Right Click on the item and select “Equip”.

Medieval Armour

The Armour comes in 2 styles each with their own bonuses and is the only armour to give Impact Resistance which is useful when facing Bandits!

It can be found at Traders and sometimes as rare loot drops in Bunkers.

The 2 Armour sets.

More information on Merchants/Traders is here.

Clothing can be sometimes automatically equipped if the Characters equipment slot is empty for that type when looting (picking up) clothing. IE: If wearing no Hat and you left click on a Hat in a Loot Chest or on the ground it wont go in the Backpack but it will go on the Head instead.

Dismantling for Material Components

Dismantling is the process of having any knife equipped and then right clicking on a Clothing item in your Inventory and selecting “Dismantle”. This will then break the item down into component items such as Fabric, Cotton, Fine Fabric and Fur (Animal Skin). A high Dexterity Skill is favourable to give the most items back when dismantling and any Knife can be used. Materials can also be found when looting, on Zombie bodies and at certain Merchants/Traders

Fur is obtained when Skinning animals either Wild, Zombie Dogs or Domesticated. Material components are required for crafting clothes, building NPC Buildings, some furniture items and making Medical Bandages.

Helmets, Shoes/Boots, Medieval Armour and the Santa Clothing cannot be dismantled.

More information on Skills is here | More information on Animals is here

The material components obtained from dismantling will vary depending on the Characters Dexterity Skill and which specific item is dismantled. Below is a rough guide on what can be gathered when Clothing is dismantled.

Update 0.0.8.6 introduced finding many Clothing Loot items with reduced Condition (Durability).

Crafting and Repair

Crafting basic Clothes, Bags and Clothing Repair Kits can be made in the Sewing Table using looted components or from items made in the Loom. The advanced version which requires Power but has many more crafting options is the Sewing Machine. These crafting tables need the Technology Tree to be unlocked and the relevant skills to be levelled.

To repair an item a Clothing Repair Kit must be in your Inventory and right click the item and select “Sew” and it will repair roughly 25% of the items Condition.

Tailoring Skill Level

  • 1 is required to be able to repair Basic Clothing.
  • 2 is required to be able to repair Military Clothes.
  • 3 is required to be able to repair Large bags.
  • 4 is required to be able to repair Military bags.
  • 5 is required to be able to repair Hiking bags.
